Somebody online will always rank Rem above Emilia. Nobody has published buff values, so those rankings are anime preference wearing a tier label. Four things you can actually check yourself:
Does the fight get easier to survive?
Survivability is the easiest thing to feel, because it decides whether you finish the encounter at all. A companion that keeps you alive changes your ceiling more than one that adds a few percent of damage.
Does it change what you do, or only how much you do?
Raw numbers get replaced as you progress. A companion that changes when you can attack, or what you can afford to ignore, stays useful longer.
Does it fit the skill family you already chose?
A companion that rewards a style you are not playing is strength you never collect. Compare it against your four-family focus before you invest in it.
Write down how you got it
Unlock rules are not published, so your own note — which menu, which condition, which day — is the only reliable record you will have when you try again.
